Quarantine: 6 ways to progress

This quarantine has a lot of us going stir-crazy, panicking, and eating a lot of {insert binge-worthy carb here} sour dough loaves. But, i’m not one to binge Netflix all day or trap myself into a comfort-food frenzy, I have goals to reach and things to get done!

And I know i’m not the only one. Instead of focusing on the overwhelming unknown of Coronavirus, i’ve chosen to step back, keep an optimistic mindset and to keep focusing on myself during this self-isolation. Why not take full advantage of the time we’re forced to spend inside (and outdoors, hello beautiful Mother Nature). We can turn this time into a positive game-changer to help propel and progress us to reach goals.

Here’s a few things I’m doing at home to be a better version of myself during this quarantine.  Try blending some of these into your routine, or setting some new micro-goals throughout the day to progress. Lets grow!

1. PRACTICE BREATH WORK
This virus is respiratory, as we’ve all heard a zillion times on the news. While breath work is something I try to be conscious of on the daily, it’s definitely something that can be taken for granted. And when it’s practiced, a lot of awesome things can happen — like reducing stress and being conscious of your body. But coolest part of all, nose breathing creates nitric oxide, which is great for lungs and immune system.

Tips + articles:

2. CONNECT WITH YOUR BODY
It’s so vital to keep moving during this isolation, even if I can’t get out during the day to walk Jack or go for a run, I make sure to foam roll, stretch or put on some East Forest and yoga flow it out. No yoga studio, no problem. While I miss my yogi community, I transformed my upstairs loft into my own personal studio to practice, find my center and give myself personal time away from the normal routine. Don’t practice yoga? Just stretch, it does wonders!

3. CREATE AN INDOOR SANCTUARY + SAFE SPACE
Spending a TON of more time at home means making it as comfortable and wellness-driven as possible. Here are some of the ways I keep my home’s spaces

  • Adding eucalyptus to your bathroom

  • Humidifier! Keep moisture in the air you breathe!

  • Use oils as respiratory medicine: essential oil diffuser with eucalyptus

  • Homebiotic - restores a healthy microbiome at home!

4. GET OUTSIDE WITH MOTHER NATURE
While I may not feel like getting after a HIIT workout every day, I do crave being outside. Going for long walks with Jack provides a release from being indoors and allows me to feel grounded. The silver lining of this pandemic may be that we are giving mother nature her own quarantine from humans, allowing nature and animals to have their own space.

5. MIND + MENTAL HEALTH
I need to grow my mind every day to feel good. And part of me loves this self-isolation because it GIVES me time to read, meditate and visualize where I want to be after the quarantine and how I want to come out of it. It’s also made me focus on what needs vs. wants. Free yourself from material wants! This time is about necessity and primal needs.

  • Meditate! There are tons of free apps that can help guide you daily, even if just for a few minutes!

  • Read a book / start a book club with your friends

  • Play board games with family

6. INNER-TERRAIN HEALTH + KITCHEN EXPERIMENTS
Get funky in the kitchen!! Learn how to make kombucha, doctor up some wellness recipes to keep your immune system in check or make some comfort food you’ve been dreaming about. There’s no time like the present. Here are some of my favorite recipes + fun experiments to try out in the kitchen:

  • Brew kombucha! Learn how to grow a scoby for a kombucha brew. Here’s my recipe.

  • Kick COVID’s ass with this wellness elixir: fire cider

  • Baked oatmeal — the ultimate comfort food! Recipe coming soon!

  • Magical broth to sip all throughout the day.
